EAST TEXAS – District competition came to an end on Tuesday as the area girls’ team wrapped things up and prepared for the playoffs starting on Feb. 12.

Many of the area teams have already clinched a spot in the postseason with one game left to play. Some are still battling for a better seed while a few others have already been eliminated. These projections are current as of Monday Feb. 5.

At the Class 4A level, the Palestine Lady Cats will head into the postseason as the fourth seed from District 18-4A. Fairfield, Mexia and Madisonville are the top three seeds.

In District 21-3A, it appears as if the Crockett Lady Bulldogs will head into the playoffs as the second seed. The Lady Bulldogs have two losses to the Coldspring-Oakhurst Lady Trojans who sit atop the district with a record of 11-0.

Crockett is two games ahead of Anderson-Shiro who is in a battle for the third seed with Onalaska and New Waverly. Trinity and Hempstead have both been eliminated from postseason consideration.

Moving to the 2A level, the Grapeland Sandiettes clinched the District 20-2A title for the second consecutive year with their 76-23 win over Latexo on Friday, Feb. 2. The Sandiettes closed out their season on Tuesday in Centerville but as of press time, the final score was unavailable.

The Lovelady Lady Lions appear headed towards a second seed when the playoffs begin. Currently, the Lady Lions are tied with the Centerville Lady Tigers for second but hold the tiebreaker in head-to-head competition.

In District 19-2A, the Cayuga Lady Wildcats will finish as either the second or third seed when the playoffs open while the Neches Lady Tigers have the second seed locked up from District 21-2A.

Complete information for District 18-3A (Elkhart, Frankston and Westwood) and Districts 27-1A (Slocum) and 28-1A (Kennard) was unavailable.
