Sandiettes Breeze by Lady Tigers, 81-19

Grapeland Moves to 4-0 in District 20-AA

LATEXO – The Grapeland Sandiettes breezed into Latexo on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 17 and walked out of the Tiger Cage with a convincing 81-19 win over the Lady Tigers.

The game was moved to Wednesday because of weather-related issues on Tuesday. Regardless of the day of the week, when the Sandiettes hit the court, they showed why they’re ranked in the top 10 of Class AA teams in the state.

Grapeland opened up a 27-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

The Sandiettes were led by Ragan Bowie and KeKe Harris with seven points apiece in the opening eight minutes of play. Kenya Woods and Tatiyanna Bowie both added four while Hannah Chipman had three and Teira Jones had two.

The Lady Tigers’ scoring came from Baylee Granberry who accounted for all of Latexo’s eight points in the quarter.

With an early 19-point lead, the Sandiettes continued to pour it on in the second quarter and clamped down on the Lady Tigers – defensively – and held Latexo to a single free throw from Tori Woodford.

On the offensive end of the court for Grapeland, Jones began to heat up as she dropped in seven. Chipman added four while a quartet of Sandiettes – R. Bowie, T. Bowie, Harris and Woods – all had two which made the halftime score 46-9.

After the break, things didn’t get a whole lot better for Latexo in the third. The Lady Tigers only managed two points on a pair of Kelsey Patterson free throws.

Meanwhile, Grapeland began to slow things down offensively but still dropped in 18 points to push their lead out to 64-11 by the end of the quarter. Chipman paced the Sandiettes in the third with seven points. Both T. Bowie and Jones had four while R. Bowie drained a three to close out the period.

Latexo showed a little spark in the fourth quarter as they scored seven points in the final eight minutes of play. Granberry had three while both Shelby Abshire along with Maggie Gibbins scored two.

Jones and Woods led the fourth quarter scoring for Grapeland with four apiece. Mary Jane Watson connected from behind the arc while R. Bowie, Harris and Deana McKnight all had two.

For the game, the Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Baylee Granberry with 11 points. Shelby Abshire, Maggie Gibbins as well as Kelsey Patterson all had two and Tori Woodford chipped in one.

Teira Jones paced five Sandiettes in double figures with 17 points. Hannah Chipman had 14 while Ragan and Tatiyanna Bowie both had 12. KeKe Harris dropped in 11 and Kenya Woods added 10. Mary Jane Watson nailed a three pointer and Deana McKnight closed out the Grapeland point production with two.

The Sandiettes took on the Centerville Lady Tigers on Friday, Jan. 19 but the as of press time, the final score was unavailable.
