GRAPELAND – Tuesday night was a good night to be a fan of Grapeland basketball. The night started with the JV Sandiettes defeating the JV Chireno Lady Owls and ended with the varsity Sandies hammering the Varsity Owls by a score of 73-51.

In between, the JV Sandies took care of business against the JV Owls, while the Sandiettes improved to 9-2 on the season, following their 64-43 win over the Lady Owls.

The Tuesday night games started off with the JV Sandiettes taking down the JV Lady Owls by a score of 35-31.

Grapeland took a one point lead after the first period of play and extended it to eight by the end of the first half.

With the score 24-16 lead at the start of the third quarter, the Lady Owls managed to shave a point off the lead by the end of three. While the Sandiettes struggled from the field in the final minutes of play, they managed to hang on for a 35-31 win.

Following the JV girls, the JV boys took the court.

The young Sandies played well in the first quarter but found themselves trailing by a score of 19-15 after the first quarter.

Grapeland turned the tables in the second quarter as they scored 21 points while holding the Owls to only 11. The 10 point scoring differential gave the Sandies a lead they would never relinquish as they went into halftime ahead by a score of 36-30.

Try as they might, Chireno simply didn’t have enough firepower to overcome the Grapeland lead. The Sandies dropped in another 23 points in the second half while they held the Owls to 16 to make the final score 59-46.
