Genesis 14 – “Abram Delivers Lot and the King of Sodom”

A coalition of kings fought against the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah and also captured Abram’s nephew, Lot. Abram defeats them with his 318 men. On the way back home He met Melchizedak, King of Salem, priest of God Most High. This man who was both a king and Priest blesses Abram and gives him bread and wine.

In turn Abram gives him one tenth of all he possesses.

However, Abram refuses to take any of the booty of battle from the king of Sodom. He does not wish the king of Sodom to report that he has made Abram rich. Abram had delivered Lot and the king of Sodom out of the goodness of his heart, not for treasure. He did not need it; God had already made him rich.
