CROCKETT – A 24-year-old Crockett woman was arrested and booked into custody on two third degree felony counts after Crockett Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on North 7th Street.

Darrynisha Marie Stovall was charged with injury to a child and assault of a family member by impeding their ability to breathe after CPD officers received a report of a disturbance at 604 N. 7th St.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, as the officers arrived at the residence, they observed Stovall walking away from the residence.

“Upon making contact at the residence, officers found that Darrynisha Stovall had been trying to get the attention of a child and when the child refused to acknowledge her, she became agitated. A witness stated that Darrynisha grabbed the child by his shirt causing his head to hit the dining room table and after she had the child in her grasp, she began to choke him,” the affidavit reported.

Responding CPD Officer Damarcus Williams stated in the affidavit, “While I was standing in the main room of house, the two year old boy approached me, while sucking on his thumb, and timidly stated that ‘my momma choked me.’”

Stovall was arrested at the scene and transported to the Houston County Jail where she was booked into custody on the two third degree felony charges.

According to Section 12.34 of the Texas Penal Code, “An individual adjudged guilty of a felony of the third degree shall be punished by imprisonment in the institutional division for any term of not more than 10 years or less than two years. In addition to imprisonment, an individual adjudged guilty of a felony of the third degree may be punished by a fine not to exceed $10,000.”

Stovall is still held at the Houston County Jail.  Her total bond has been set at $40,000.
