Genesis 13 – “Lot Separates from Abram”

Both Abram and Lot, his nephew, had large herds of sheep and goats. They were so large that where they were would not sustain both herds. So, Abram decides they must split up, and he gives Lot his choice of land. Lot chose the Jordan river valley because the forage was lush. Abram took the higher ground.  However there was only one problem. “The men of Sodom (where Lot would reside), were excessively wicked. (verse 13). It is interesting that this verse adds: “against the Lord”. They knew about Lot’s God, and they probably knew their evil acts were against Lot’s God!  Lot got the best land, but he also had to live in a sinful city. One final comment: The Lord tells Abram, “After you have parted from Lot, lift up your eyes and look northward, southward, eastward, and westward, for all the land you see I will give to you and your children forever. This has not happened yet, but it will sometime in the future.  Amen.
