PINELAND – The Lovelady Lions were on the road last week as they traveled to Pineland for their district opener in District 12-AA DI against the West Sabine Tigers

The Lions were coming off of a bye week following a heartbreaking loss at home to the Timpson Bears to close out September.

Given the extra week of preparation, Coach Jon Lowery had his team more than ready to play as the Lions came out of the locker room ready to play and mauled the Tigers by a final score of 46-12.

So far this year, the Lions have alternated wins and losses. After a season opening loss to the Grapeland Sandies, Lovelady bounced back with a 36-8 win over the Anderson-Shiro Owls.

The win over the Owls was followed a 43-24 defeat by the Joaquin Rams but Lovelady regrouped to blast the Leon Cougars by a final of 48-8.

The win over West Sabine moves the Lions to 1-0 in district play and evens their record at 3-3. The Lions will welcome the Deweyville Pirates to Lovelady on Friday, Oct. 20 for a homecoming matchup.

The Pirates will swagger into town with an overall record of 3-2 and a district mark of 0-1. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
