ELKHART – The Elkhart Elks welcomed the Teague Lions to Jerry Ives Memorial Stadium on Friday, Oct. 13 for a District 9 AAA DI matchup and as you might have guessed from the aforementioned date, it was bad luck for the Elks.

The Friday the 13th game started off well for the Elks as John Ashford returned the game’s opening kickoff for an 85-yard touchdown. The extra point by Jacob McSwane was good and before quite a few fans could even get settled into their seats, Elkhart led by a score of 7-0.

The rest of the game – even though the stadium isn’t located on Elm Street – was a nightmare for the Elks.

Teague rattled off 44 points, after the early deficit, and won going away by a final score of 44-7.

The Lions’ defense was simply more than the Elks could overcome. Teague limited Elkhart to 84 total yards – not including return yardage. The Elks only managed 57 yards on the ground on 22 attempts for an average of 2.59 yards per carry.

The Elkhart passing attack wasn’t much better as the Elks only connected on seven of 17 passing attempts for a total of 27 yards.

The loss dropped Elkhart to 1-2 in District 9 AAA DI play, while Teague improved to 2-1. Elkhart is 3-3 overall.

Elkhart will look to regroup next week against the Eustace Bulldogs. Eustace comes into the game with a 0-3 district and 3-3 overall record.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Elkhart, Friday Oct. 20.
