Bonnie Leon Sefton, was born May 1st, 1932, the year of the great Houston Hurricane. At 85, he passed away peacefully in Pasadena, Texas on September 11, 2017, just after Hurricane Harvey.  Amidst God’s mighty tempest Leon’s soul arrived and then departed in the majesty of God’s great power, before which we are all truly humbled.  His unbending, unwavering faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior delivered him into the warm embrace of the Father.  And in his passing, Leon reaches out to you directly, and invites you to join him in our Lord’s Grace.

Leon is survived by faithful wife of 62 years, Marjorie Dell McKenzie Sefton, his fellow educator, travel companion, caretaker, and best friend. His children are David Leon Sefton and wife Leann, Myra Jo Sefton Farris and husband Dan, and Steven Dell Sefton and wife Lori. “Grandpa” is missed by nine grandchildren; a devoted grandfather, leaves behind grandchildren Daniel Sefton Farris, Kristina Ashley Dorismond, Tara Dell Bacchus, Devin Andrew Sefton, Lauren Elizabeth Hettema, Melanie Jo Beran, Austin Dell Sefton, Amy Frances Sefton, and Cara Marie Sefton as well as their spouses and a collective eleven great-grandchildren. Leon’s older sister Patricia Vaughn and husband Gwynne survive Leon as well.

Leon Sefton was born to Bonnie Lester Sefton and Frances Graham Sefton. He attended Pasadena High School and was a proud graduate of Southwest Texas University, a star athlete, that set a long held state track record, later earning his Master’s Degree awarded by the future President of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson. In 1954, Leon and Marjorie entered into a holy union devoted to faith, family, friends, and education. Over a career of more than thirty years, Coach Sefton was one of Texas top baseball coaches and very directly impacted the lives of several thousand students in Luling, Pasadena, and Deer Park.  He was an innovative educator and introduced the first CAD architectural high school computer program in the state.  He was an avid traveler, golfer and wing shooter.

Throughout his mortal journey, Leon’s church involvement was first in his life, including being a Deacon and serving many roles in his church. His commitment continued into his senior years at South Main Baptist Church where he attended, taught, volunteered, and served as long as he was able. His last two years he suffered a tragic illness he handled with rare grace, dignity and courage as always a role model in his adversity.

All have blessed assurance that a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, coach, and educator, has been received into the embrace of Heaven.  “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant”.
