“1 Corinthians 13:13 – “The Excellence of Love”

“But, now faith, hope, and love abide ….; but the greatest of these is love.”  In this context the Apostle Paul teaches that love is greater than the gift of tongues (speaking a previously unknown foreign language instantly by the power of the Holy Spirit.

When I hear this verse I think immediately of two things: First, Galatians 5:22 & 23 where the fruit of a Holy Spirit controlled life is, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, (and) self-control”: Second, how the allies, especially Great Britain and the United States treated P.O.W.’s during and after WWII.  Why were we kind to German P.O.W.’s?  There is only one answer:  Christianity!  We (the Americans and British were compelled by our common hearts to show kindness to our common enemy: Germany.  There is a museum in Hearn, TX where 1,800 German prisoners where held captive during and after WWII.  I want to take some of my grandchildren to see this museum soon.  Amen.
