Did you know that “Stewardesses” is the longest word typed with only the left hand?

Or that the word “lollipop” is the longest word typed with the right hand?  I bet you are thinking about this aren’t you?  The average person’s left hand does 56 percent of all typing.   

No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver, or purple.  The only word in English that ends with ‘mt’ is ‘Dreamt.’w

Did you know that our eyes are always the same from birth, but our nose and our ears never stop growing?  Does that mean that my ears are going to get even larger?

The sentence: “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” uses every letter of the alphabet.  I can see you trying this one out right now.

The words ‘racecar,’ ‘kayak,’ and ‘level,’ are the same whether read from left to right or from right to left.  They’re called palindromes.

There are only four words in the English language, which end in ‘dous’: tremendous, horrendous, stupendous, and hazardous.  And, there are two words in the English language that have all five vowels in order: ‘abstemious’ and facetious’.  Yes, aeiou…

‘Typewriter’ is the longest word that can be made by using the letters on only one row of the keyboard.

Did you know that a ‘jiffy’ is an actual unit of time?  It’s 1/100th of a second.  I actually thought that was a made up word…

Here are some interesting facts about some living things.  A cat has 32 muscles in each ear, and a goldfish has a memory span of just three seconds.  Now, aren’t you glad you know that?  A shark is the only fish that can blink with both eyes.  A snail can sleep for three years.  And, an ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain.  That’s not very big, is it?  In the last 4,000 years, no new animals have been domesticated.

Did you know that babies are born without kneecaps?  They don’t appear until the child is 2 to 6 years old.  I am a nurse, and I am wondering about this one.

February 1865 is the only month in recorded history not to have a full moon.  The winter of 1932 was so cold that Niagara Falls froze completely solid.

If the population of China walked past you, 8 abreast, the line would never end because of the rate of reproduction.

A few more little known facts: Leonardo Da Vinci invented the scissors, peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite, and rubber bands last longer when refrigerated.  The microwave oven was invented after a researcher walked by a radar tube and a chocolate bar melted in his pocket.  Did you know that there are more chickens in the world than people?

The cruise liner, QE2, moved only six inches for each gallon of diesel fuel it burned.  Or, did you know that women blink about twice as much as men do?  Or that Winston Churchill was born in a Ladies room during a dance?

Now don’t you feel smarter than you did before?  Are you ready to win the next Trivia game?  Now, if I can only remember some of the things I learned.  It is beginning to feel like my mind has selective learning capabilities like my hearing does.  Even if we remember only a couple of these useless little tidbits, we will know more than we did before… God bless you.
