CROCKETT – Have you ever wanted to see your child perform onstage? Do you have a child who is interested in acting? The Missoula Children’s Theatre will be in Crockett from Monday, June 12 through Saturday, June 17 to provide just the opportunity.

MCT will hold open auditions for a production of “Peter and Wendy” at the Crockett Civic Center from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 12.

“Those auditioning should arrive at 9:30 a.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours of scheduled audition time,” according to a Piney Woods Fine Arts Association press release. “Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.”

The auditions are open to children of all ages, but children entering first grade through 12th grade are encouraged to audition, the press release said.

“The auditions are open to kids of all ages and we strongly encourage everyone to take this opportunity to act in a show,” PWFAA executive director Glenn Barnhart told the Messenger on Monday.

After the auditions, representatives from the MCT will select up to 60 children to perform in a live theatre production. Once the cast has been set, rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, June 13 and continue through Friday, June 16. Rehearsal times are 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in acting to learn from professionals who have been in the business for years,” Barnhart said. “It will be a great learning experience for anyone interested in acting.”

MCT also will hold a casting call for assistant directors to aid in the rehearsals and to take on various backstage duties during the productions.

“The assistant directors will be the guys and girls behind the scenes,” Barnhart said. “They will get to work more with the sets, costume and lighting.”

The children will put on two performances of their rehearsed plays on Saturday, June 17 at the civic center. Performance times are 3 p.m. for the first showing and 5:30 p.m. for the second.

“The MCT always do a fantastic job with their productions and all of the kids have had a great time with it in the past,” Barnhart said. “I’m hoping this year is no different.”

Written by J.M. Barrie in 1904, “Peter and Wendy” is the original story of the classic character, Peter Pan, and his adventures in the magical world of Neverland. Among the roles to be cast include, but are not limited to: Peter, his shadow, Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys, Wendy and her brothers, John and Michael, Tiger Lilly and the notorious Captain Hook.

MCT touring productions come complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup. No advanced preparations is required for anyone wishing to audition.

“No prior acting experience is needed to audition,” Barnhart said. “Just bring yourself, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic and you’re good to go.”
