De Etta Miller Kitchen

De Etta Miller Kitchen, age 87, of Crockett, took flight from this life June 6, 2017 from Hospice in the Pines, Lufkin Texas.  She was the first child of the late Dave Miller and Florene Walker Miller. She was born April 10, 1930 in the New Salem Community in Grapeland, TX.  She attended Ralph Bunch High School in Crockett, TX and graduated in 1948. In 1955, she was united in Holy matrimony to Red Kitchen. She united with the Bethel Baptist Church at an early age, where she served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and was a faithful member until her ailing health.

De Etta found beauty and sweetness in every child she met and shared that gift while under the employment of the Crockett ISD for 11 years.

She was also known to be a top Avon sales lady in Crockett and the surrounding areas.  One of her favorite places to be was on her back porch which she called her “Parlor.”  She planted beautiful flowers there and loved listening to the birds sing.

 De Etta is survived by husband, Red Kitchen of Crockett; son and daughters-in-law, Willie and Eunice Kitchen of Crockett and Alretha Kitchen of Crockett; step-granddaughter, Sade Davis of Louisiana; step-great-grandson, Jathan Spikes of Louisiana; brother and sister-in-law, Dave E. and Faye D. Miller of Tyler; cousin, Ruth Hicks of Crockett; caregiver, Debra Holt and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 She is preceded in death by parents, Dave and Florene Miller; and children, Flora, Freddie and Darius.

 A sincere thank you from the family to all of her numerous special friends who stopped by to encourage her through her most trying days.

 Funeral services for De Etta Miller Kitchen were held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Bethel Baptist Church.  Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michelle Lynn Holsey Foundation, P.O. Box 652 Crockett, Texas 75835 or Hospice In The Pines, 1504 W Frank Ave, Lufkin, TX 75904. Arrangements were under the direction of Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.
