 “1 Corinthians 5:1-13 – “Immorality Tolerated”

Divisions was the first major problem in the Corinthian Church. Immaturity (not wanting to grow up spiritually) was the second major problem. Third, gross immorality was tolerated within the congregation. The Apostle Paul says, “It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, … of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles (unbelievers) that someone has his father’s wife. Remove the wickedness from among yourselves. In the name of our Lord Jesus when you are assembled deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh (body) that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” (NASV)

I have only been in one congregation that had to revoke church membership for sexual misconduct. It was a sad day for our church, but it had to be done. It is the same in this Corinthian Church situation. This professing Christian man had to be removed.

Immorality is prevalent in our country also, in this age and time.

The best way for us who know the Lord to stand against such activity (outside of our own congregation), in the world around us, is to live pure lives by the power of the indwelling Spirit of God.

We should always keep in mind two things: First, our bodies are God’s temple, therefore it needs to be kept clean. (I Cor. 6:19 & 20) Second, every Christian will have to give an account of how they have lived their life, to the Lord Jesus Christ one day in Heaven before His Judgment Seat. (II Cor. 5:10)
