Elbert Lee Foster

Elbert Lee Foster, age 95, of Crockett, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Houston County Nursing Home. Lee was born June 20, 1921 in Austin to M. Elbert Foster and Rosie Bagwell Foster. He graduated from Crockett High School in 1939. Lee worked for Brookshire Brothers after graduation and learned to be a butcher in the meat market. On September 25th, 1942, Lee joined the U. S. Navy during World War II. He served our country honorably until November 17th, 1945. In 1948, Lee met and married his “Sweetie Pie” Corine Currie. They enjoyed traveling the United States and Lee was an avid fisherman. They also enjoyed working in their yard and garden. They both loved and adored their nieces and nephews. At the time of Corine’s death, they had been married 51 years.
Lee was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. He accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at First Baptist Church under Brother E. P. Ramsey. He and his wife Corine dearly loved worshipping at First Baptist Church where he served as an usher for many years. Lee was a veteran salesman at Sullivan Motor Company for 22 years and during his employment at Sullivan’s, he received numerous sales awards. He was very proud of this achievements as a Top Hatter on several occasions in the Houston District and the State of Texas. In 1970, Lee and his wife Corine established Foster Auto Sales and together they ran a very successful used car business for 16 years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Corine Currie Foster in 2000; parents, M. E. and Rosie Foster; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Luther and Pearlie Currie; nephew, David Williamson; sister-in-law, Charlene Currie Peavler.
Lee is survived by brother-in-law, Melvin Currie of Palestine; sister-in-law, Lydia Currie of Latexo; nieces, Rhonda Brown and husband, Michael of Porter Springs, Janette Thomas and husband, Ronnie of Crockett, Annette Williamson of Crockett; nephews, Russell Currie and wife, Karen of Elkhart and Johnny Currie and wife, Lisa of Crockett; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Elbert Lee Foster will be held Friday, April 14, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ottis Byers officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park. Family will receive friends for visitation Friday at 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.  prior to service.
