All Region, All State Teams Peppered with Area Talent

EAST TEXAS – When the final horn sounded at the Alamodome marking the conclusion of the 2016-2017 UIL Basketball season for both high school girls’ and boys’ basketball, the postseason accolade lists started to flow.

Houston County, eight of the schools placed at least one person on the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Region team and two schools had players selected for the TABC All-State team.

At the All-State level, Slocum Lady Mustang Jessi Ives was selected to the 2016-2017 TABC Girls’ All-State Class 1A Team.

On the boys’ side of the court, Grapeland Sandies Tink McQuirter and Parker Wilson were selected to the 2016-2017 TABC Boys’ All-State Class 2A Team. In addition, teammate Riley Chipman was selected to the Class 2A All-Tournament.

Neches Tiger Bryson Barrett was also named to the Class 2A All-State team.

At the All-Region level, Ives was selected to the Class 1A squad and was joined by teammates MaKayla Bickerstaff and Shelby Bowman.

The three Lady Mustangs were joined on the Class 1A All-Region squad by Kennard Lady Tiger Tatiana Johnson.

Moving to the girls’ Class 2A level, Grapeland Sandiette Hannah Chipman was selected as an All-Region player and was joined by Cayuga Lady Wildcat Britney Long miles.

At the Class 3A level, Crockett Lady Bulldog Dea’Junique James was selected as an All-Regional team member.

On the boys’ side of the court, Slocum Mustang Alex Maldonado was selected to Class 1A All-region team.

Grapeland’s McQuirter and Wilson were selected to the All-Region team at the 2A level and they were joined by Lovelady Lion Hunter Murray along with Neches Tigers’ Bryson Barrett and Matt Wages.
