THE WEEKENDER by Clyde Black 3-5

“WATT?”

Did anyone else see Houston Texan J.J. Watt in Houston County this past Saturday evening?  I didn’t actually see him but it had to be him because nothing else could inflict the hurt I felt.  I was innocently changing outside light bulbs when the ladder and I went different directions.  I was slammed to the earth first landing on my tail bone then the back of my head, without a helmet, tried to see how big a hole it could make in my yard’s clay soil.

Of course, the ladder tried to have its way with my face!  Fortunately, the Strong Woman was right there asking me, “Are you ok dear?”  Unable to move my legs for a few seconds, the back side of my brain now somewhere it shouldn’t be and spitting aluminum ladder from my teeth my reply was certainly, “I’m fine dear”.  I asked her if she got Mr. Watt’s autograph but she claimed not to have seen him.  It had to be him.

The Crockett Lions Club Chili Supper was a huge success and chili master Chuck Siems again pulled it off.  Kudos to all the Lions who worked so hard to make it a success and the public for coming out.  Money raised will support Lions Camp for some disabled kids and scholarships for Houston County students.  Something you may not always get to see was our County Judge, Jim Lovell, with his arms deep in a sink washing dirty dishes and working hard to help the club. This guy may be trying to make the term “politician” a good thing.

I know the Grapeland Lions Golf Tournament should be coming up soon so you guys let me know how I can help.

I watched our new President address both houses of Congress on Tuesday night and must admit that I was positively impressed.  He is bringing a positive message and has already accomplished positive things for the country.  Goodness, look at the stock market if nothing else.  He’s already saved jobs and he’s being met by more negative C___ than I can believe.

I wish the democrats and weak kneed republicans would find some courage and integrity to help him accomplish more good.  He wasn’t my first choice but I like what he’s doing and you can’t question his personal strength.  He’ll need it.

It’s been another good week in Houston County and I hope we all continue to thank the Lord for our many blessings.
