Three Area Lifters Headed to State

FAIRFIELD – The strongest girls in the area came together on Thursday, March 2 to compete against one another in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSPWA) Regional Meet for a chance to advance to the State Meet scheduled for Saturday March, 18.

According to the THSWPA Rule Book, “A lifter who qualified for the Regional Meet would qualify for the State Meet by: either finishing first or second in her weight class; posting a qualifying total for her class; or by qualifying within the ‘top two rule by classification.’ For example, at Regionals, if the top two finishers in a weight class are 5A, the top two 6A girls, regardless of place, would go to State to represent their Region as 6A representatives.”

There were 145 lifters in attendance at the meet held in Fairfield and the girls represented 31 different schools. Among the area schools in competition were Cayuga, Elkhart, Frankston, Trinity and Westwood.

The meet was scored based on a combination of bench press, dead lift and squat. Seven points were awarded for first place, five points for second three points for third, two points for fourth and one point for fifth.

The Elkhart Lady Elks finished fifth in the team competition with a total of 13 points based on  two second place lifters, a fourth place lifter and a fifth place lifter.

The Trinity Lady Tigers finished 11th in the team competition with a total of eight points based on one first place lifter and one fifth place lifter.

The Westwood Lady Panthers finished 28th in the team competition with one point based on a fifth place lifter.

Cayuga and Frankston finished tied for 31st.

Individually, in the 105 pound class, Elkhart Lady Elk Karson Pardue placed fifth with a total of 585 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 230 pounds in the squat, 115 on the bench and 240 in the dead lift. Trinity Lady Tiger Adelina Caceras placed seventh with a total of 555 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 220 pounds in the squat, 105 on the bench and 230 in the dead lift. Elkhart’s Alissa Talley placed eighth with a total of 555 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 235 pounds in the squat, 90 on the bench and 230 in the dead lift.

Because Caceras weighed in at 102.5 pounds while Talley weighed in at 104, Caceras was awarded the higher place.

In the 114 pound class, Trinity Lady Tiger Nayeli Davalos placed sixth with a total of 600 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 245 pounds in the squat, 120 on the bench and 235 in the dead lift. Cayuga Lady Wildcat Alyssa Barnett placed eighth with a total of 580 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 210 pounds in the squat, 140 on the bench and 230 in the dead lift.

In the 132 pound class, Elkhart Lady Elk Shawnee Vaughn placed 10th with a total of 615 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 220 pounds in the squat, 90 on the bench and 300 in the dead lift.

In the 148 pound class, Westwood Lady Panther Janzel Baroy placed fifth with a total of 755 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 295 pounds in the squat, 125 on the bench and 330 in the dead lift.

In the 165 pound class, Elkhart Lady Elk Kerstin Humphries qualified for the state meet with a second place total of 835 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 330 pounds in the squat, 175 on the bench and 330 in the dead lift.

Also in the 165 class, Trinity Lady Tiger Kyndall Hill placed 10th with a total of 725 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 265 pounds in the squat, 145 on the bench and 315 in the dead lift.

In the 181 pound class, Trinity Lady Tiger Kelli Ramey placed eighth with a total of 740 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 310 pounds in the squat, 135 on the bench and 295 in the dead lift.

Also in the 181 class, Frankston Maiden Paige Miles placed 11th with a total of 340 pounds lifted. She recorded a lift of 340 pounds in the squat, but did not record lifts on either the bench or dead lift.

In the 198 pound class, two area lifters are headed to state. Trinity Lady Tiger Deanna Fisher placed first with a total of 1030 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 405 pounds in the squat, 235 on the bench and 390 in the dead lift.

Also qualifying for the state meet from the 198 pound class is Elkhart Lady Elk Harleigh McEnturff who placed second with a total of 950 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 390 pounds in the squat, 190 on the bench and 370 in the dead lift.

Trinity Lady Tiger Shakendra Snell was also in competition in the 198 pound class and placed seventh with a total of 785 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 285 pounds in the squat, 215 on the bench and 285 in the dead lift.

In the 220 pound class, Trinity Lady Tiger Beatriz Costilla placed fifth with a total of 800 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 295 pounds in the squat, 170 on the bench and 335 in the dead lift.

In the 259 pound class, Elkhart Lady Elk Tawny Anderson placed seventh with a total of 730 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 300 pounds in the squat, 145 on the bench and 285 in the dead lift. Trinity Lady Tiger Sintia Costilla placed eighth with a total of 685 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 265 pounds in the squat, 185 on the bench and 235 in the dead lift. Frankston Maiden Destiny Toye placed 10th with a total of 655 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 270 pounds in the squat, 125 on the bench and 260 in the dead lift.

In the 259 + pound class, Elkhart Lady Elk Natalie Defore placed fourth with a total of 715 pounds lifted. She recorded lifts of 275 pounds in the squat, 150 on the bench and 290 in the dead lift.
