THE WEEKENDER by Clyde Black: Drawing and Rodeo

“Drawing and Rodeo”

If you are not a member of one of the county’s service organizations, I would encourage you to join.  There are several and if you read this column you will hear mostly about the Crockett Lions Club because that’s where I affiliate.  The Grapeland area also has a Lions Club and most of our communities have some type of organization or community organization to help provide services and entertainment for their communities.  I know you are busy making a living and trying to get by but it’s good for us to associate with other folks to accomplish good in the community.

The Crockett Lions club just had it’s annual chili supper and it was well attended.  The club’s next big presentation is the annual PRCA Lions Club Rodeo!

Committees have been formed and ticket sales for the Gator Drawing have already started!  It will be here before you know it.

I’m thinking the Grapeland Lions Club has an annual golf tournament.  I can’t remember when it is held but I plan on participating this year.  The Grapeland club has helped the Crockett club get it’s tournament going so I owe them.  Please let me know when that will be.

I get a lot of feedback during the week about these columns and it seems like the folks really like it when I sound off about politics.  Since 44 left office, I’ve been quiet.  Waiting to see where President Trump is going and if our locally elected representatives have the courage to go with him.  I’m afraid Kevin Brady does not. He hasn’t helped get rid of, repeal, 44 care, has he?  He’s been “fighting” for tax reform for years but I haven’t seen it yet.  Have you?  He’s done nothing to help us use our natural resources, timber and water, to create economic development in the county.  But what do I know?   I’m just an old man who is not feeling any relief.

Come on Mr. Brady.  Go have lunch with Ted Cruz and tell him you are ready to become a Texan!  Remember the Alamo and do something!  May God help us!
