THE WOODLANDS – The Crockett Bulldogs basketball season came to an end on Thursday night after they fell to the La Marque Cougars by a final of 72-50. The Dawgs hung tough throughout the game but a combination of poor shooting in the second quarter and costly turnovers throughout the contest allowed the Cougars to pull away and advance to the Regional Quarterfinals.

As the game got underway, the Dawgs looked like they were ready for the #4 ranked team in Class 3A and held a one point lead after the first period of play. Jurmond Wooten led the way for Crockett with six first quarter points.  B.J. Anderson knocked down a 3-pointer while a trio of Dawgs – Tyrese Anderson, Xavion Dixon and Allen Horace – all had two. Harvey Stewart made one of two from the line to give Crockett a 16-15 lead after one.

The Cougars point production came from Jauron Freeman with five, LaDerrious Arvie and Keyshaun Ouzenne with four apiece and Desmond Murray with two.

The second quarter was a different story for Crockett, however, as their shooting went ice cold. Horace dropped in a basket while Trevion Duncan and Wooten both made one of two from the line. Unfortunately for the Dawgs, that was all they could muster, points-wise, in the second quarter of play.

The Cougars took advantage of the poor shooting from Crockett and seized a lead they would never relinquish. Arvie dropped in six, Ouzenne had four and Johnny Scott closed out the first half scoring with a two as La Marque led by a score of 27-20 at the break.

After halftime, the Cougars began to pull away from the Dawgs in large part because of the 18 points put up by Freeman in the third quarter. He was joined in the scoring column by Murray and Adrian Gamble with two apiece while Ouzenne and Jordan Ivy-Curry both had one.

Crockett was led by B.J. Anderson with seven points and Harvey Stewart with four. Dixon and Lucky Daniels also had two apiece for Crockett as the Dawgs found themselves looking up at a 51-36 deficit.

While they cut the lead to single digits on two occasions, the Dawgs just didn’t have enough to overtake the Cougars. B.J. Anderson, T. Anderson, Horace and Wooten all had three for Crockett in the fourth quarter while Derrick Sherman had two and Dixon added one to round out the Dawgs’ point production.

Murray led the way for La Marque with eight points in the final period of play while Raymond Stubblefield came off the bench for six. Ouzenne had three and both Curry as well as Freeman scored two as the Cougars defeated the Dawgs by a final of 72-50.

The Cougars were led in scoring by Jauron Freeman with 25 points. Both Desmond Murray and Keyshaun Ouzenne had 12 and LaDerrious Arvie dropped in 10. Raymond Stubblefield went for six, Jordan Ivy-Curry had three and both Adrian Gamble along with Johnny Scott had two.

Crockett was led by B.J. Anderson with 13 points and Jurmond Wooten with 10. Allen Horace netted seven while three Dawgs – Tyrese Anderson, Xavion Dixon and Harvey Stewart – all had five. Both Lucky Daniels and Derrick Sherman added two while Trevion Duncan chipped in one to round out the Crockett scoring.
