Paul Hamerton Estachy, 88, of Centerville, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at his Leon County ranch home. He was born August 29, 1928, in Port Washington, NY. Paul was a Golden Glove boxer and a football center for Tulane University where he graduated with an engineering degree. He spoke four languages: English, French, Spanish, & German and went to work for the French Line in New York & Paris. From 1952- 1997 he continued his stevedoring career with Southern Stevedoring Company in Houston. For many years, he served as a Trustee of the Maritime Association, Pension, Vacation and Welfare Fund, managed the Galveston Container Terminal and chaired the West Gulf Maritime Association Labor Committee, assisting in contract negotiations from New York to Brownsville. Paul was an avid hunter throughout Texas & Louisiana.
In 1998, he “retired” to work fulltime on his ranch but continued stevedore consulting work through 2015. His tenacity, fortitude, never quit attitude along with his unusual strength made him quite a character of distinction.
