EAST TEXAS – The Crockett Lady Bulldogs took another step on the road towards San Antonio on Valentine’s Day night when they beat the Hemphill Lady Hornets by a score of 58-44 in the Bi-District round of the 2016-2017 UIL Girls’ Basketball Playoffs.

The game opened with the Lady Dawgs jumping out to a 12-7 lead in the first quarter. Anastasia Bolton dropped in a 3-pointer and was joined by Shelby Corry who hit a two, was fouled and converted the free throw. In the second quarter, Dea’Junique James got things going for the Lady Dawgs with 12 points on a pair of 3-pointers, a pair of 2-pointers and two free throws. She was joined in the scoring by Holmes who knocked down a 3-pointer of her own while Corry added a two to help give Crockett a 29-21 lead at the break.

As the third period got underway, Hemphill made a brief surge but the Crockett defense quickly closed the door on a comeback bid. Corry paced the Lady Dawgs with five in the third while D. James and Lockhart both netted two and M. James converted a free throw to close out the third quarter with Crockett ahead by a score of 39-33.
