Jimmy Ray Houston

Jimmy Ray Houston, age 80, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at his residence and was buried in the Corban-Houston Cemetery in the Denson Springs community.Jimmy was born September 30, 1936, in Crockett, TX, to Rayford and Q’Belle (Richardson) Houston. Jimmy had worked in many capacities throughout his life: Barber, fishing guide, nurse, and provider of adult foster care. Jimmy was a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Boxer (CVS-21) and the USS Loraine County (LST-1177).

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Fox) Houston of Denson Springs; stepchildren, Belinda (Lindy) Simms and husband, Tony of Alto; Mike Osborn and wife, Lori of Round Rock; Brenda Owens and husband, Tim of Grapeland; grandchildren, Donald Lankford, Aaron Lankford, Corry Lankford, Jason Osborn, Joseph Osborn, Michele (Osborn) Kettle, Mandi Osborn, Kelly (Osborn) Hinton, Megan (Osborn) Malone, Michael Osborn, Bryan (Than) Owens, Bethany (Owens) Sherling, Eden (Owens) Parker, Ellen (Anhel) Owens, Elaina (Owens) Nolen, Hannah Owens, 34 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nephew Michael Houston; and nieces, Amy Houston Yarborough and Amanda Houston McLemore.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Judith and Aletha; brother, Mike Houston; sister-in-law, Millie Houston; pre-born grandchild, Noah Owens; grandson, Gabe Phillips; granddaughter, Sable (Simms) Rider and great-grandson, Gage Lankford.

A memorial service for Jimmy Ray Houston will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church in Slocum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or The Salvation Army, 633 N. Broadway Avenue, Tyler, TX.
