Georgie Lavenia McDonald Cook

Mrs. Georgie Lavenia McDonald Cook, age 95 of the Ash Community passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 in Bryan. She was born May 1, 1921 in Creek, to Effie Corine Alford and Fred Lewis McDonald. On February 1, 1941 she married her sweetheart Glyn B. Cook and greatly enjoyed their 70 years of marriage before he passed away on April 21, 2011. After his return from WWII service in the China-Burma-India Theatre, they lived in Nacogdoches and Houston where they raised their 3 young sons.

Mrs. Cook enjoyed her retirement in the Ash Community, working in her vegetable and flower gardens, and volunteering for the Austonio Community Association where she served as Secretary and Treasurer for a number of years.

She was a faithful member of the Ash Church of Christ. Mrs. Cook was known as “Mamaw” by her grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She loved her family dearly and greatly enjoyed the large family gatherings at her home on Thanksgiving and Christmas where her chicken-and-dressing and numerous pies and cakes were the specialties of her house.

Mrs. Cook is survived by her brother, Marion McDonald; sons, Glyn McDonald Cook and wife, Norma of The Woodlands, William Michael Cook and wife, Emma of Bryan, and Jimmie Lynn Cook and wife, Susan of New Waverly; grandchildren, Traci Alison Lee and husband, Richard of Fort Worth, Jeffrey Stephen Cook of Alexandria, VA, William Michael Cook, Jr. and wife, Missy of Houston, Mark Willis Cook and wife, Tracey of Norfolk, NE, Christopher Scott Cook and wife, Krysti of Pflugerville and Marcy Rebecca Pullen and husband, Lucas of Panama City Beach, FL; great-grandchildren, Barrett, Stephanie, Brandy, Maggie Beth, Alyson, Emily, John Thomas, Ethan, Ella, Tucker, Cheyenne, and Levi; great-great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Fletcher, Anderson, Rosemary, Brayden, Bradley and Braxton; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceded in death by husband, Glyn B. Cook, granddaughter, Anna Caryn Cook, parents, Fred Lewis McDonald and Effie Corine Alford McDonald, four sisters, and two brothers. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care given Mrs. Cook by Tish Wilkins and Corrina Munoz of Compassionate Care Hospice.

Funeral services for Mrs. Georgie Lavenia McDonald Cook will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel.

Interment to follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. To 8:00 p.m. at Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.
