THE WEEKENDER by Clyde Black: Nobody Cares What You Look Like

“Nobody Cares What You Look Like”

Although the skies have been clear for the last few days, I kept hearing what I thought was thunder.  Turns out it was the sound of democratic senators and representatives running from the halls of the U.S. Congress.

Because of a new administration the legislative branch has work to do and they don’t like it.

The previous administration of #44 and lackey Harry Reid never brought anything to a vote and did no work at all.  Democrats have a long history of running from hard work in the Congress.  Texas democrats always run to Oklahoma and wonder where these dudes in D. C. run?

But, enough of politics.  I’m feeling like promoting Houston County.  We actually have some good old fashioned democrats in our county and I sincerely feel sorry for them.  Now, back to Houston County.  The Weekender has been in publication in this county for about 17 years but is somewhat new to The Messenger.  There may be some new readers who don’t know that the column has long promoted our county.  There are some really neat activities here that need to be promoted.  The Peanut Festival, Lovefest, Christmas on the Square, Kennard’s wonderful Christmas celebration and parade, the Fiddler’s Fest and on and on.  As we begin year 2017 the county’s first big festival is Lovelady’s Lovefest!  First of all, did you know that there is only one Lovelady in the whole USA?  It’s right here on Hwy 19 South.

On Feb. 11, in just a week or so, the Lovefest will be held in Lovelady.  A parade kicks off at around 9:00 am or so.  The fun is on the grounds at the old Lovelady gym.  Crafts for sale, great food vendors, fun rides for the kids and of course the barbeque cook off with competitors from all around competing for prizes and acclaim!  This is a wonderful, clean cut family affair for all ages.  No matter the weather this function will take place.  If the mud is deep wear boots, if it’s cold bundle up because nobody cares what you look like.  All that is important is that you show up and have a clean cut, old fashioned good time.  You just might find that piece of art, antique or jewelry you’ve been looking for.  Mark your calendars and show up in Lovelady for a great time and don’t forget the dance Saturday night.
