ANDERSON COUNTY – Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor credited aggressive patrol tactics and police work for the high clearance of burglaries and reduced number of burglaries in general as the 2016 statistics were released.

In 2016, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office cleared 29 percent of the reported burglaries compared to 25 percent of the reported burglaries in 2015. Burglaries went from 174 to 133, while thefts went from 182 to 157.

“The national average for clearance of reported burglaries is 12 to 15 percent. In 2016, we recovered $590,881 in stolen property compared to $482,063 in 2015,” ACSO Sheriff Greg Taylor said in a press release. “The high clearance of burglaries and the reduced number of burglaries and thefts is a direct result of aggressive patrol tactics and good police work by my patrol staff and my criminal investigators as well as firm prosecution and support from our Criminal District Attorney’s Office.”

In 2016, the Sheriff’s Office responded to 14,447 calls for service. They executed 1,871 warrants and dispatch answered 22,238 911 calls.

The only statistic category where 2016 increased was in Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle (UUMV). In 2015, there were 25 UUMVs, compared to 40 in 2016.
