Area Boys Compete in Elkhart Invitational Powerlifting Meet

ELKHART – The Elkhart Invitational Texas High School Powerlifting Association Meet was held in Elkhart on Saturday, Jan. 14 and several of the area lifters fared very well in the first meet of 2017. There were 82 lifters from area schools at the event including: Buffalo; Cayuga; Elkhart; Frankston; Grapeland; Malakoff; Mount Enterprise; Trinity; and Westwood.

The team from Elkhart powered their way to first place with a total of 39 points with three first place lifters, two second place, two thirds and a fourth place lifter. The meet was scored based on a combination of bench press, dead lift and squat. Seven points were awarded for first place, five points for second three points for third, two points for fourth and one point for fifth.

While the Elks far out-pointed the competition, the order of finish between second through fifth place was decided by five points. Westwood finished second with 29 points, Buffalo was in third with 26, Trinity finished fourth with 25 and Grapeland finished fifth with 24. Frankston finished in sixth place with 20points, Malakoff had 17, Cayuga had six and Mt. Enterprise finished with zero points.

Frankston Indian Hardin Coleman finished first in the 114 pound class with a total of 750 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 305 pounds in the squat, 145 on the bench and 300 in the dead lift. Elkhart’s Jerry Fail finished second with a total of 550 pounds lifted and Buffalo’s Logan Shaw was third with a total of 490 pounds.

In the 123 pound class, Westwood Panther Cannon Churchman finished first with a total of 710 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 300 pounds in the squat, 125 on the bench and 285 in the dead lift. Malakoff’s Chandler Prinka finished second with a total of 675 pounds lifted and Buffalo’s Brandon Renteria was third with a total of 570 pounds.

In the 132 pound class, Frankston Indian JJ Beckfield finished first with a total of 770 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 325 pounds in the squat, 145 on the bench and 300 in the dead lift. Frankston’s Noble Giles finished second with a total of 745 pounds lifted and Elkhart’s Cooper Jordan was third with a total of 745 pounds.

In the 148 pound class, Elkhart Elk Demarkus Ray finished first with a total of 905 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 350 pounds in the squat, 220 on the bench and 335 in the dead lift. Trinity’s Joel Dees finished second with a total of 890 pounds lifted and Buffalo’s Truman Garza was third with a total of 835. Trinity’s Justin Standley was fourth was a total of 770 and Frankston’s Ben Workman was fifth with 740 pounds.

In the 165 pound class, Trinity Tiger Parker Hay finished first with a total of 1130 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 430 pounds in the squat, 225 on the bench and 445 in the dead lift. Wetswod’s Zach Morrow finished second with a total of 1020 pounds lifted and Buffalo’s Ulices Guerrero was third with a total of 955. Trinity’s Sebastian Maldonado was fourth was a total of 935 and Trinity’s Johnathan Alemen was fifth with 895 pounds.

In the 181 pound class, Grapeland Sandie Cameron Riess finished first with a total of 1490 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 600 pounds in the squat, 385 on the bench and 505 in the dead lift. Elkhart’s Ryan Lindsay finished second with a total of 1190 pounds lifted and Elkhart’s Nate Bell was third with a total of 1150. Elkhart’s Mike Agan was fourth was a total of 1140 and Buffalo’s Trevor King was fifth with 1000 pounds.

In the 198 pound class, Buffalo Bison Hector Dominguez finished first with a total of 1225 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 510 pounds in the squat, 265 on the bench and 450 in the dead lift. Westwood’s Trey Walters finished second with a total of 1150 pounds lifted and Grapeland’s Ashton Henry was third with a total of 1080. Elkhart’s Westwood’s Jamar Clewis was fourth was a total of 1055 and Westwood’s DeVonte McClain was fifth with 1030 pounds.

In the 220 pound class, Elkhart Elk Gavin Defore finished first with a total of 1315 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 490 pounds in the squat, 335 on the bench and 490 in the dead lift. Cayuga’s Brendan Harcrow finished second with a total of 1175 pounds lifted and Grapeland’s Aaron Davis was third with a total of 975. Malakoff’s Brendan McClintock was fourth was a total of 895 and Buffalo’s Timothy Simpson was fifth with 795 pounds.

In the 242 pound class, Elkhart Elk TJ Jones finished first with a total of 1300 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 510 pounds in the squat, 300 on the bench and 490 in the dead lift. Trinity’s Brandon Phillips finished second with a total of 1175 pounds lifted and Trinity’s Giovanny Garcia was third with a total of 970. Grapeland’s Cerdarian Davis was fourth was a total of 940 and Cayuga’s Joey Ingram was fifth with 780 pounds.

In the 275 pound class, Westwood Panther Malik Benson finished first with a total of 1435 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 600 pounds in the squat, 320 on the bench and 515 in the dead lift. Buffalo’s Benito Rivas finished second with a total of 1310 pounds lifted and Malakoff’s Lincoln Rogers was third with a total of 1000. Westwood’s Keevon Jackson was fourth with a total of 1000 and Grapeland’s Franco Rea was fifth with 950 pounds.

In the super heavyweight class, Malakoff Tiger Coby Wilbanks finished first with a total of 1225 pounds lifted. He recorded lifts of 525 pounds in the squat, 310 on the bench and 390 in the dead lift. Grapeland’s Joel Barbosa finished second with a total of 1155 pounds lifted and Grapeland’s Tanner Keith was third with a total of 910.
