Nelda Faye Porter Deaton

Nelda Faye Porter Deaton passed away December 13, 2016 in The Woodlands at the age of 89. She was born September 11, 1927 to parents, John Ward and Bertha Porter in Ora, Texas.  She graduated from Huntington High School in 1944.  She attended Sam Houston State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1959 and a Master of Education Degree in 1978.  She taught first and third grades in Lovelady ISD until her retirement in 1988, nurturing the hearts and minds of several generations of children.

She married H. T. Deaton on August 28, 1963 and celebrated 48 years of marriage, prior to his death in 2012.  She was a member of the Lovelady First Baptist Church and faithfully served her Savior, family, church and community throughout the years.

Nelda always enjoyed traveling with family and chronicling her adventures in scrapbooks.  After her retirement, she was able to travel with her sister, Larita, and the Huntington Hometown Travelers.  She appreciated the beauty of places she had only dreamed of while growing up in Ora, Texas.  Her travels took her to many places, including San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Colorado, New York, Washington D.C., South Carolina, Georgia, New England, and Canadian Rockies.  She also enjoyed several trips to Branson, Missouri and Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Nelda will always be remembered for her kind heart, loving spirit and beauty that radiated from the inside out.  She touched many lives and left this world a better place because of her presence.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Ward and Bertha Porter; husband, H.T. Deaton; sister, Vanita Byrd; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marshall and May Deaton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Doris Barton; and brother-in-law, Billy Cutchshaw.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deidra and Matthew Doherty; sister, Larita Cutchshaw; nieces, Deborah Cutchshaw and Barbara Cook; nephews, Danny Cutchshaw, Mike Byrd and Jerry Byrd; brother-in-law, Robert Byrd, and other family members and many friends.

Funeral services for Nelda Porter Deaton will be held Friday, December 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lovelady First Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Matthews and Rev. Mitchell Kleckley officiating.  Interment will follow in the Lovelady Evergreen Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lovelady First Baptist Church 229 Read Street, Lovelady, TX 75851 or the Lovelady Evergreen Cemetery, P O.
