Weekly Bible Commentary by Wes Woodard – Esther 10 – “Mordecai Promoted and the Feast of Purim Instituted”

In Esther 10:2 we read with regard to Mordecai, that “his authority and strength, and the full account of the greatness of Mordecai to which the king advanced him… was second only to King Ahasuerus…” and he “sought the good of his people… and spoke for the welfare of his whole nation.”

Esther, along with Mordecai, established the Feast of Purim (Dice) in memory of Haman’s casting dice to determine the day for their extermination. The Jews still celebrate this Feast today. It is a time of great joy because God delivered Haman and his ten sons into their hands. The book of Esther closes on this positive note, that the Jews are God’s special, chosen people, and He will protect them even today.
