Weekly Bible Commentary by Wes Woodard – Esther 8 – “The King Promotes Mordecai and Makes a New Law”

To make a long story short, Esther pleads with the King for the lives of her Jewish people in the Medo-Persian Empire (Haman had tricked the King into setting a date when all the Jews would be killed.). To negate this law, the King had Mordecai decree that the Jewish people could defend themselves on that day. Next week, Lord willing, we will look at chapter 9 and how effectively the Jewish people defended themselves against their enemies. Esther had found favor with the King. She was most likely very beautiful and was very humble in his presence and I’m sure liked by all of the King’s servants. The King gave her a gift of all which Haman possessed to show his admiration of her.

God has always preserved His people even when they have been disobedient to Him. We are commanded to honor the Jewish people if we want God to bless us.
