KENNARD – Volleyball season is underway in Kennard and the Lady Tigers are off to a good start. So far on the young season, their record stands at 3-2.

According to VB Coach Jamie Minter, in the Lady Tigers season opener, they hosted the Leggett Lady Pirates and ran them ashore in three straight games, 25-17, 25-4 and 25-7.

Kennard was back in action on Aug. 16, but this time the tables were turned as they lost their match against the Hemphill Lady Hornets, 8-25, 23-25, and 16-25.  Coach Minter said, “Even though the second game was close, Hemphill was able to win it and the match.”

Two days later, on Thursday, Aug. 18, the Lady Tigers traveled to Groveton to take part in the pool play part of the Lady Indians Annual Tournament, “… and did well, taking two of three matches,” the coach said.

In their first match of the tournament, the Lady Tigers lined up across the net from the Goodrich Lady Hornets. Kennard dropped the first game, but came storming back to win the next two games and the match by a scores of 25-20 and 25-15.

The second match of pool play saw Kennard squaring off against the Shelbyville Lady Dragons and according to Minter, “We played a feisty Shelbyville team, but won in two games, 25-19 and 25-18.”

Shortly after defeating the Lady Dragons, Kennard was back on the court to take on their cross-county rivals, the Latexo Lady Tigers. It was a Tiger fight in the first game of the match as the purple Lady Tigers defeated the green Lady Tigers in a nail biter, 25-22.

After that however, it was all about the ladies from Latexo as they won both the second and third games by identical scores of 25-13.

Following pool play, the brackets were created on Friday, Aug. 19. The Lady Tigers were scheduled to play again on Saturday, Aug. 20 in the bracket portion of the Groveton tournament, but as of press time the results of their games were not available.
